Kabul House in Evanston does not adhere to Halal guidelines due to the absence of certification, and the owner has explicitly directed employees to refrain from revealing the source of their meat.
The fact its Zabiah halal you should be open to disclosing to Muslims source. As Muslims we are required to ask to the source if its Zabiah Halal or not otherwise the Muslim is on the hook for 40 days for consuming haram food. Why are your employees being told not to disclose the source. Too many people go to restaurant depot and buy only Machine slaughter meat not truly hand slaughtered meat
This was our first time ordering from this place. We got a group Platter #1 which cost $150. It was picked up right before closing time. When we opened the large bag of food, as a Birthday dinner, we saw that the restaurant forgot to pack the grilled vegetables, which were part of the order. This was disappointing as we already paid for everything and the restaurant was already closed. Nobody called us from the restaurant to apologize and to fix this when they realized that they had a pan of grilled vegetables in their kitchen which they forgot to pack in our order. Very disappointing! Also, the ground meat was fine, but the chicken kebab was way too spicy and the Afghan rice had only a little bit of carrots and raisins [as if they ran out] sprinkled on top as opposed to mixed throughout the large rice platter.
Questionable halal meat! We called the restaurant to see their halal certificate since they claim they are halal but the representative said that they do not have a certificate and said the owner doesnt want to disclose the information about the organization they are certified with. If you truly care about your patrons, you will prioritize transparency rather than dismissing their legitimate concerns.
Hmm, I went there some months ago for the first time, and I wont lie, I liked the design and the inside interior but then when it comes to food and pricing, it was not up to my expectations compared to the pricing. They gave us 4 tiny pieces of lamb with a little rice for over $35. And the first time We ordered Kabab Koobideh and Qabuli Palaw which the rice was kinda dry and there were a few raisins and carrots, u could not taste them and real Qabuli is not like that. Also, the kabab was kinda dry and I say this cuz I have eaten a lot of koobidehs before. And last thing to mention, the manager or server whoever was there, this Spanish guy, I asked them for few pieces of tomato for my koobide cuz they did not have many, and he brought me 3/4 pieces which is just 2 tomatoes, and later I saw that he charged me $2 for that! Not to mention the green mung bean my sister ordered was burnt. It smelt and tasted burnt so idk why they even brought it, they could just say they did not have it available or offer a substitute. Overall, I feel like the pricing does not live up to expectations and I will not really wanna go there, alas cuz I liked the restaurants design. And I expected a better representation of authentic Afghan cuisine.
Some of the best Afghani food we had. I would highly recommend their Lamb Chops and the Lamb shank Qabuli Pulao
We had been there before for lunch but this was the first time for dinner. We went with another couple and sat outside. The service was excellent and we enjoyed the time together but the food was slightly disappointing. It isnt the cheapest place to eat and the entrees are served with a mound of rice that could feed an army and they charge significantly for it. I actually ordered a kabob by itself to avoid the rice mound.
I might return but uncertain.
It was a very nice experience!!
We recently dined at Kabul House and had a wonderful experience overall. The ambiance was amazing warm, cozy, and full of authentic Afghan vibes that really set the mood for the meal.
We ordered the Hummus, Bulanee, Aushak, Spicy Chicken Kabob, Chicken Koobideh Kabob, and Afghan Saffron Tea. The kabobs were the absolute highlight flavorful, tender, and perfectly cooked. The Afghan rice served alongside was a hit too soft, aromatic, and beautifully spiced with carrots and other seasonings that made it incredibly delicious.
The chutneys added a nice spicy kick and paired well with everything we ordered. The only thing we didnt enjoy much was the pita bread, which felt a bit dry.
Parking was a bit of a struggle, but we managed to find a spot across the street. Despite that, it was totally worth it for the food and atmosphere.
Overall, a great dining experience delicious food, vibrant ambiance, and wonderful Afghan flavors. Definitely recommend trying their kabobs and rice!
