About
Our History
With the Muslim community branching into such areas of the RTP, a masjid (mosque) in the North Durham area became a necessity rather than a luxury. Several years ago, group of brothers recognized that need and began planning the establishment of the Northern
Durham Islamic Association to accommodate the Muslims of North Durham.
Our Mission
We envision our Northern Durham Islamic Association as a comprehensive community center fully serving both spiritual and practical needs of the Muslim community, while creating outreach to embrace the larger community of Muslims and non-Muslims.
Our Community
Due to the increasing needs of our growing community it has become a necessity to expand our masjid. The land will be developed to have a prayer hall, multipurpose event hall, classrooms,
recreation area and plenty of parking to
overcome the existing parking problem.
This project is a multi-stage project.
The end goal is to satisfy the current
and future needs of our community

What is the juma praying time?

No Stars! I was visiting family in Durham and attended the Jummah services. I was told to pray in the Sister’s Musalla which was a supply closet that was used to store extra tables, chairs, and vacuum cleaners. I was the only sister present (another sister and her daughter arrived shortly after), I asked if I could pray in the front of the mosque with the brothers and was told no. The proper services has the women in the front, the children or chairs in the middle as a barrier, and the women in the back. The entire khutbah was spoken in Arabic with very few words in English. This experience was excluding and unpleasant. No stars!
