I first learned about Islam by going to The Islamic Center Of Corvallis. They gave me a free English copy of the Koran. Some members gave me Islamic clothes. There was a member that helped me move when I was changing apartments. The women’s Koran teacher did a good job of translating the Koran lessons into English for me. However, I’m disappointed that no Arabic classes were offered. There is an Islamic Center in Portland that does offer Arabic classes.
I feel awkward about writing this, but here goes.
This summer I accepted Islam in my life.
I knew very little about the religion but was sincere in my desire.
I was graciously welcomed by the women there. They neither shunned me nor discouraged my choice.
The lessons are taught in both Arabic and English. Most of the members are from overseas, and they have gone out of their way to make me feel welcome, translating both the teachings and conversations.
I drive one hour each way to be there.
I am so happy that I have found a home for worship and friendship.
I came here a few years ago because I wanted to learn more about Islam. The day I decided to drop by I was doing laundry. All my clothes where in a large backpack, the kind favored by hobos and mountaineers. From the men outside to kind and knowledgeable fellow I spoke with in the Masjid, no one looked at me like I was a bum. When I was invited to the prayer I was greeted as a brother. I still have the Qur’an I was given that day.
One of the worst community. Sisters are
Welcoming and loving only when they meet you first time after if they dont see you come to jummah or classes they exclude you and ignore you . I recommend Salem community . Very family oriented and welcoming even if they see you once a year You can feel the joy when they see you , without questioning or judging your absence .
