About
Established in 1983, Masjid Sayed Jamaluddin Afghani evolved from a modest home to a thriving 3-floor center serving 1000 congregants. Dedicated spaces for prayer, education, and community events ensure spiritual growth for future generations. Our next mission: nurturing young minds through a Maktab system.
From a rented home in 1983 to a thriving 3-story hub, Masjid Sayed Jamaluddin Afghani has witnessed the growth of our community. Today, we serve 1000 congregants, offering dedicated spaces for prayer, education, and community events. We foster spiritual growth for all ages, ensuring a vibrant center for generations to come.
However, our journey doesn’t end there. Recognizing the importance of nurturing young minds, we’re now establishing a Maktab system. This exciting initiative will empower future generations and enrich our community further. Join us on this journey of faith, connection, and learning as we shape our future together. Masjid Sayed Jamaluddin Afghani, established in 1983, began in a rented home in Fresh Meadows, NY, later moving to Sanford Ave and 149 St in Flushing, NY. As the Afghan community grew, so did our need for a dedicated space. With community support, we purchased a two-family home on 149 St and Beech Ave, converting it for prayer use. Over the years, the community expanded, prompting the purchase of adjacent properties. In 2007, we acquired another house, merging the lots to build a new three-floor masjid, accommodating 1000 congregants across 3000 sq ft for men, 3000 sq ft for women on the second floor, and a multipurpose basement of 6000 sq ft. With $4.5 million raised since 2007, we’ve ensured facilities for future generations, including separate spaces for men and women, classrooms, funeral services, Nikah services with a full kitchen in the Basement, and the observance of Quranic recitations, Ramadan Taraweh, Eid Salah, and more. Our next goal is to hire teachers and establish a maktab system for our community’s children.
